7th Annual Summit 2021

The outbreak of coronavirus (Covid-19) epidemic has affected people all over the world. With reports of people with virus increasing, with suspected cases feared to be higher than the imagined. The worst thing happening being the rising numbers of deaths in many parts of the world, including Africa continent.
Learning at all levels of education in many parts of the world, especially in Africa and other less developed regions of the world has been greatly affected. In Kenya, on March 2020, the President ordered that learning in all educational institutions be suspended with immediate effects. Consequently, all learners remained at home until January 2021.

Since the schools were back and following the requirement by Ministry of Health, World Health Organization and Government protocols on covid-19, considering that schools are hubs of social activities and human interactions, it was possible that ensuring social distancing of Early Childhood Children needed to be addressed, as the role of play in child development and learning is important. Given their tender age, absence of play limits socialization with possibilities of kids developing depression.

It was with this reasons that the Competence Building Society of Early Childhood Education for Kenya (CBSECEK) organized the early childhood development & education post covid-19 summit at Pinecone hotel Kisumu County between 1st and 5th march 2021 which was convened together with key stakeholders on Early Childhood Education with the mission of working together in data gathering, analyzing and considering potential policy measures that may be helpful during exceptional times such as now, to ensure learning continuity, guided by principles of equity and inclusion.

The Summit gives a platform for participants to realize a multiplicity of approaches to minimize the impact of the pandemic on learning as well as considering the review of the existing education policies to encompass measures to address the socio-economic dimensions of the crisis, which is affecting the lives of children in all myriad of ways.
